Nature-Based Solutions in ASEAN: Building Resilience through Nature

Across Southeast Asia, rapid urbanisation, climate change, and environmental degradation are intensifying the vulnerability of communities, ecosystems, and economies. In this dynamic regional context, Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) offer a transformative and inclusive approach to addressing these interlinked challenges — restoring ecosystems, reducing disaster risks, and supporting sustainable development pathways that benefit both people and nature. Within ASEAN, they represent a bridge between traditional ecological knowledge and innovative climate adaptation strategies, ensuring that resilience, productivity, and environmental integrity advance together.

Aligned with Global Standards

The ASEAN NbS Plaform aligns with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) framework on NbS and its seven societal challenges—climate change adaptation and mitigation, disaster risk reduction, water and food security, human health, economic development, and biodiversity conservation.  With this alignment, the Platform positions NbS as an inclusive, integrated, and scalable that supports sustainable growth and strengthens climate resilience across ASEAN.
